The Almighty God is a Father And A King

People will always oppose God

Psalm 2 says that one thing that is always happening is that leaders will always try to get rid of God. Now a days we see this as people try to prove that God doesn’t exist, but it has always happened. Whether it was the many attempts to kill Christians throughout history or the leaders who twisted God’s Word to gain power for themselves, leaders have always known that having a righteous and pure God is bad for gaining earthly power. It’s one reason God doesn’t say our earthly life will always be joyful and happy. We can take God’s joy into everyday, but sin means that many of the days we have in this life will be hard.

God is in control and all powerful

Psalm 2 also says what comes of the plans of the power hungry leaders. God laughs at them. He knows that even kings, or modern elections, can’t oppose His plan. No one on Earth can change God’s plan.

God is a father

I’ve always wondered why God wants believers to fear Him. Yes, He’s a powerful king, the most powerful thing in the universe, but He’s also a father. Why would a father want His adult children to fear Him?

Psalm 2:11

Verse 11 is just one of numerous places that mentions loving and fearing God. Then it occurred to me that fear isn’t just fearing painful punishment such as a king could order, like an execution. I fear being late to disappoint the person I’m meeting. An artist fears their first gallery show worrying about what the public will think about their art. Yes, God is a father who punishes His children when they do wrong, but God is a father who we fear to disappoint out of love for Him.
