Psalm 20- A Blessing For A Christian Beginning

When was the last time that you started something? Maybe you started a new school or started a new job. Maybe you moved off to college or got married. Psalm 20 verses 1-5 were probably said to the king when he and his army marched off to war, but I think these verses are a great blessing at any time.

God gave the king victory

The blessing for the king was not for the king himself to win, using his strategy and the strength of his army, but a prayer that God would do the work. As the king started out with his huge army each year to defend or conquer, the ceremony reminded everyone that success came through God. A king full of pride was not going to earn victory. Only a king full of prayer and humility could be guided by God to be successful, saving the kingdom from being conquered or plundered.

What about now a days?

Christians these days, like everyone else, are bombarded by advise. Tips, tricks, how-tos, and well-intentioned friends are everywhere. Ask a new or soon-to-be mom how much advice she’s gotten or searched for. Between the internet, social media, books, and friends and family, it’s easy to get overwhelmed as you start anything, but try to relax and listen to God.

It’s a lesson I’m trying to remember as I start this blog. There are so many tips and paths to turning a blog into a business that it’s hard to decide which way to go. I’m definitely guilty of getting so much in my head that I don’t remember that God is in control. I need to calm down and let Him work. He is in control and has plans to prosper all of us. (Jeremiah 29:11)

God is the reason for our success

So next time you’re starting something, from a new job to a new Bible study, start with reading Psalm 20. It ends with a great reminder that trusting our stuff and power alone will bring failure, but trusting God will lead to success.
